For this exercise I attempted to recreate a Mercedes logo. First I created 700 by 700 px document. With the Ellipse Tool (L), I created a 600x600 px size shape. With the Star Tool, without letting go of the mouse button, I subtracted the sides of the shape and created the middle of the logo. After that I created two copies of the ellipse. I selected the bottom shape and expanded it. Applied a gradient to the outside circles. For the colours, I typed in the specific shades given in the tutorial. With the Pen Tool (P) I divided the middle shape into six separate parts and applied a gradient for each of them. In my opinion, the final turned out to be pretty similar to the one shown in the tutorial. Although I did have some trouble with the Pen Tool. Also, I think the outer ellipse is too thin.
Success:
I managed to apply the gradient on the shapes according to the tutorial. Overall, the final image looks very similar to the example.
Fail:
I made the ellipse of the logo too thin because I did not follow the specific instructions. Also, the divided shapes are uneven. This is because I had some trouble with the Pen Tool - the lines just would not connect where I wanted them to.
