I started this exercise by creating a circle 400 pixels width and 400 pixels height. I filled the circle with a linear blue gradient. Then I created the Offset Path to -30 pixels. I changed the gradient of the smaller circle to a more Greyscale colour and set the angle to -90 degree. I made the Offset Path function one more time, only changing the direction of the Gradient to 90 degree. With all the circles selected and grouped I drew a triangle with the Star Tool that is 100 pixels width Radius 1 and 100 pixels Radius 2, Points – 3. I rotated the Triangle to -90 degree to make it resemble a play button. I applied the blue gradient to the button simply changing the angle to 90 degree. With Triangle selected I used the Offset Path function again, changed the Offset to -10 pixels and the angle of the Offset to 180 degree. Finally I drew a rectangle that intersected the triangle. With both selected I pressed the Subtract From Shape Areas button in the Pathfinder Panel. I filled the cut shape with a linear gradient with colours white and black, changed the angle and transparency to Screen Mode. I did not have any difficulties with this exercise. The instructions were very clear and the steps themselves were quite easy and uncomplicated. I feel like this exercise was a great introduction to Illustrator as it covered many easy but essential program functions.
Success:
I am very happy with the final image. I did not have any problems throughout the process and enjoyed the simple steps.
Fail:
The reflective part on the button is not exactly the same in the tutorial because I just lowered the opacity instead of changing the blending mode. With everything else that I did I am generally happy with.
